John —
We talk a lot about FEC fundraising deadlines, so we wanted to take a moment to explain why they are so important to Mark Kelly’s chances.
After an FEC deadline, candidates are legally required to report how much money they’ve raised. Right now, our opponent doesn’t know what we’ve raised. And we don’t know what he’s raised either.
Our opponent’s campaign, PACs, and dark money groups could have raised absurd amounts of money they’re ready to spring on us. That could mean attacks ads on TV, on radio, online, on billboards — even blimps. Seriously.
You can bet outside groups will be looking to see what we’ve raised. They’ll want to know if we’re vulnerable. If we are, they’ll be more likely to attack. But if we file a strong report, they might pull back their spending.
That’s why these deadlines are so important — strategically and practically. Every campaign, national group, and Super PAC will look at these reports and make budget decisions.
So, we have to raise everything we can and exceed our September fundraising goals so we’re prepared to fight back in the final few weeks of the campaign.
And since these emails are the primary way Mark Kelly’s campaign raises money, it means we have to ask:

This is the last FEC deadline before voting starts. Hope you can see why this is so important.
