Hi Friend,
Around the world, hunger is on the rise at an unprecedented scale. Violent conflict, drought, and economic crises are exacerbating malnutrition—particularly among young children. Hunger has soared this year, and a record 345 million people are facing acute food insecurity, according to the United Nations World Food Program.
We refuse to let malnutrition in countries from Nigeria, to Afghanistan and Somalia go overlooked. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are treating a staggering number of patients for malnutrition. We’re rapidly ramping up operations in certain regions to meet the growing need for therapeutic feeding treatment—but all of that takes enormous resources.
Our generous donor community allows us to respond to global crises like the ones we’re currently witnessing without hesitation. During this humanitarian emergency, your generosity can help make the difference.
Malnutrition is one of the greatest threats to global public health, and is the underlying factor in nearly half of the deaths of children under five years of age. That’s why our teams are focused on treating patients for malnutrition in regions that are bearing the brunt of this devastating crisis—and where your donation will make a significant impact:
This year, MSF is preparing to treat up to 100,000 malnourished children in Nigeria’s Katsina state and is expanding its regional response to malnutrition in Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kano.
MSF staff at Boost hospital in Afghanistan treat 400 severely malnourished children under 5 years of age every month. We have continued to provide lifesaving care amidst soaring food prices and a prolonged drought.
In just one week, MSF teams admitted over 1,000 children to the therapeutic feeding program at centers surrounding Baidoa city in Somalia. MSF staff found that 30% of children had severe acute malnutrition.
--- All gifts given, up to $575,000, will be doubled through 11:59 p.m. ET on September 29. Every dollar you give will be matched with $1. Gifts received after the match has been met will not be matched but will be used where needed most.
