Last week my campaign started running ads telling voters about my opponent’s staunch anti-choice view. In light of Senate Republicans’ bill to ban abortion nationwide, it’s more important than ever that voters know what’s on the line in November.
Since the ad went live, we’ve heard from voters who think we’re fear-mongering, who don’t believe an abortion ban could ever happen in California. So let me break it down for you:
At this very moment, Republicans don’t have the votes to pass an abortion ban. That’s only because Democrats worked hard to win in 2018 and 2020 and now hold (slim!) majorities in Congress and have President Biden in the White House. But remember, just a few years ago, Republicans controlled all three branches of government, and if we don’t work hard to retain seats like mine in November, future elections will have dire consequences.
It’s clear that Republicans don’t just want to turn this debate over to the states. If that was the case, they wouldn’t be supporting Lindsey Graham’s new bill to ban abortion nationwide.
Republicans want to punish patients who seek an abortion and the doctors who perform them. It’s an extreme agenda, and they’re trying to take away our freedom.
I know it may be hard to imagine losing a right we’ve always assumed is protected here in California. But hey, it was also hard to imagine Donald Trump becoming President. Every election and every House seat matters, and your support will help keep this seat blue and allow me to continue fighting for our freedom.
