Ever since the Supreme Court handed down its absurd Citizens United ruling 12 years ago, corporations and the super rich have secretly spent literally as much as they want “influencing” our elections. Wealthy special interests and big-money donors hold too much power, and they use political and financial loopholes to hide their spending on lobbying, elections, and judicial confirmation hearings.

The DISCLOSE Act will rein in corporate spending, stop Super PACs from subverting the will of the American electorate, and close secret money loopholes.

The public deserves to know who is spending money to stamp out popular climate legislation, pack the courts with right-wing extremists, and fund a MAGA takeover of our government. Urge the Senate to pass the DISCLOSE Act without delay.

Secret political spending from billionaire and corporate interests doesn't only make it harder to pass popular, much-needed legislation -- it also makes it easier for well-funded extremists to threaten our lives, strip our freedoms, and undermine our democracy.

The fossil fuel industry uses their billions to stamp out popular climate legislation and force an increasingly dangerous agenda. White evangelicals funded a secretive donor network to pack the courts with right-wing extremists, and now we have a Supreme Court that is stripping us of our reproductive freedom and manufacturing legal doctrines. Dark-money groups not only funded and organized the rally before the January 6 attack, they're still funding a MAGA takeover of government.

Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has reintroduced the DISCLOSE Act, legislation that would end all secret election spending. It requires organizations spending money in elections to disclose major donors, and for groups that spend money on ads supporting or opposing judicial nominees to disclose their donors.

Poll after poll shows Americans across the political spectrum overwhelmingly want to end secret spending in politics. We are tired of dark money corrupting our democracy. In free and fair elections, voters alone should have the power to determine our nation’s leaders, without fear that their voices will be drowned out by powerful elites or special interests.

The Senate has the opportunity to take a significant step toward ensuring that corporations, billionaires, and foreign interests do not sway our elections and gain control over our government. Tell them to pass the DISCLOSE Act.
