Friend,
When I went to Capitol Hill last week to testify about Big Oil and the dangers of petrochemicals to frontline communities, I knew I would face Republican resistance.
But I never expected to be yelled at, demeaned, and targeted by Tucker Carlson and the entire right-wing disinformation machine.
If you already saw these viral clips and know what went down, click here to share my response and fight back right away.
Let me introduce myself. I'm an attorney and the founder and executive director of the Energy Justice Law and Policy Center, the nation's first grassroots public interest law firm devoted to energy justice. I'm also a member of Evergreen's advisory board. It's nice to meet you, though I wish it were under better circumstances.
During my testimony, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-Louisiana) launched into a racist and misogynistic rant against me, shouting over me and calling me "young lady" and "boo."
Don't worry—I shot right back at him that the fossil fuel industry that owns his state is destroying the earth.
But then Tucker Carlson invited Rep. Higgins on his vile show to thank and congratulate him for attacking me.
You know what happens next: As soon as that segment aired, online hordes began bombarding me with foul language, nasty messages, and threats against my life.
I want you to know that I am unbothered, undeterred, and unapologetically staying focused.
This disgusting propaganda campaign is an attempt to obscure the real issue—that Big Oil and the petrochemical industry are poisoning frontline communities and undermining climate action in order to keep making their products and profits.
So today, I'm asking you to fight back against these right-wing attacks by sharing my response thread and spreading our message.
Together, we will stand up against misogyny, stand for environmental justice, and win the future we deserve. We will not be stopped by the fossil fuel industry, their disinformation, or the politicians they bought and paid for.
Onward,
Raya Salter
Evergreen Advisory Board Member
