Words from Councilmember Trayon White, Sr. on the passing of Mr. Nathaniel Bazemore.

It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing of Mr. Nathaniel Bazemore that we affectionately reffered to as “Bazemore.” He was a valued member of our team since October 15, 2018 and we will miss him greatly. 
 
Bazemore’s commitment to the residents of Ward 8 and all those he touched was unmatched. As a member of my Constituent Services team, Bazemore was an advocate on behalf of our residents with issues related to the District Department of Transportation, Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, DC Department of Energy, Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Public Works.
 
Outside of the office, Bazemore was an advocate for returning citizens and youth. He had been invited to speak at youth facilities where he would oftentimes receive standing ovations.  His dream was to start hosting speaking engagements where he would speak with at-risk youth about life and how to deter them from a lifestyle that would either end in death or incarceration.
 
Bazemore served as our moral compass with respect to bringing real, sustainable solutions to each initiative that came through our office. He was loving, caring, considerate and had a laugh and spirit that filled the room. Bazemore was one-of-a-kind. 
 
Please keep Mr. Bazemore’s family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time.
