We announced our new Giffords Center for Violence Intervention, which will champion community violence intervention strategies and organizations across the country.

John—

Last night we hosted our 2022 Anniversary Celebration, both virtually and—for the first time since 2019—in person in San Francisco.

I’m so grateful we were able to come together as a community to celebrate Giffords Law Center’s work and honor our founding. We’ve experienced historic highs, like the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and devastating lows, like the mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, since we last gathered. Our time together reminded me yet again of why we do this work.

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate our award winners: Senator Chris Murphy, Garden Pathways, and Kaplan Hecker & Fink LLP. At our celebration, we also announced the launch of our newest program, Giffords Center for Violence Intervention, which will use our national platform to champion violence intervention strategies and organizations across the country.

Paul Carrillo, Giffords Center for Violence Intervention

Community violence—the daily shootings that disproportionately impact underserved neighborhoods of color—is one of the main drivers of this country’s gun violence epidemic. Gun laws are crucial, but they’re only one aspect of the fight to end gun violence. Intervention is a key part of this movement, and I’m proud that we’re formalizing our work in this field to make a real difference in the lives of Americans.

We wouldn’t have made historic progress like the passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act without you. If you missed the event, you can still make a contribution to fuel our lifesaving work.

I’m honored you’re in this fight with us. Thank you for all that you do.

With gratitude,
Peter
