Why should you donate if our race isn’t competitive?
Look, we know you get a lot of emails asking for donations. It can get tiring, and we understand. We know some of you are also asking why you should make a donation here instead of giving to a candidate facing a race in a swing district or state.
Here’s why:
Reason 1: We rely entirely on you.
Our campaign takes 0 corporate donations. There’s no super PAC or big donor coming in to protect us from the attacks constantly coming our way. So if our donations drop, as they have been starting to lately, we will have to reassess our budget and make tough cuts.
Reason 2: Our last election was the second most expensive House race in the country.
Our last Republican challenger in 2020 raised $10 million. And we can’t let those attacks go unanswered because they could chip away at the credibility of the Congresswoman and her policies, even if they aren’t initially successful in kicking her out of office. So we are still very much in campaign mode. We still have to pay for expensive radio and digital ads, and we are running a field program that stretches across two boroughs.
Reason 3: We organize a lot of community-building programs, outside of traditional election work.
We aren’t a traditional campaign, and we know that’s part of why you’re here. During the pandemic, we ran a food distribution program that lasted for over a year. We organized a Census outreach program in 2020 that helped New Yorkers keep a congressional seat. We run a Homework Helpers program that tutors students in our district. And last weekend, we gave out thousands of backpacks to support families going back to school. But to keep doing untraditional work like this, we need to keep our budget strong.
We know you can make a donation a lot of places, particularly this election season. But we hope we’ve explained why we also need you to keep giving here — even if it’s small. Our average donation is $14.74. Can you chip in $14.74 – or anything you can – today to help keep our campaign going strong?
