Yeah, That Will Convince Americans

What to Know: Taking perhaps the worst position so far in the climate change alarmism movement, environmentalists say that to save the world, we need to dump our pets.

The TPPF Take: Um no.

“First burgers, then plastic straws, now puppies and kittens. It seems the radical environmentalist movement is determined to ban everything fun in the name of climate change,” said TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “Fortunately for Fido, actual climate science shows we can continue enjoying life with our furry friends — and even our fossil fuels — guilt-free.”

Smoke Gets In Their Eyes

What to Know: Even as China chides the U.S. for withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, it is building “an insane number” of coal-fired power plants.

The TPPF Take: The U.S. is providing real environmental leadership.

“China is going all-in on coal while telling the rest of the world—and the U.S.—to reduce their emissions,” says TPPF’s Chuck DeVore. “Of course, if the U.S., Western Europe, and other advanced economies increased their energy costs through carbon taxes China’s exports, fueled with cheap energy, would enjoy a competitive advantage.

SAT Down

What to Know: A University of California at San Francisco professor is calling for schools to drop the SAT and similar tests from the admissions process.

The TPPF Take: Eliminating the SAT and other such admissions tests will actually harm disadvantaged students.

“In my experience, the SAT and ACT, though not perfect, are better than most measures out there for predicting whether a student will succeed in college,” says TPPF’s Tom Lindsay. “Rampant grade inflation has made high school grades all but meaningless. The result of this move is not all that hard to predict: Primarily white, suburban, and affluent kids will get an even greater upper-hand in college admissions over poorer, inner-city, minority kids than they might already enjoy.”
