Dear John,

As the holiday approaches, I’m especially struck by the blocks and blocks of abandoned storefronts up and down our district. This district, known as a haven for the latest trends, one of a kind goods, and unique experiences that you can’t get anywhere else in the world, is now made up of long stretches of vacant space. The mom and pop shops that once defined the various neighborhoods of our community are gone.

Small businesses in New York City once served as hubs for community and culture. But over the past several years, vacant retail space roughly doubled — with some surveys showing that more than 20 percent of retail space in NYC is vacant.

Donate now to help send me to D.C., so that I can fight to bring small business back to NYC and across the country. ([link removed])

As Deputy Secretary of Economic Development of New York State, I oversaw programs awarding hundreds of millions of dollars for investment in downtown revitalization to build a sustainable path for retail and small businesses. This is the foundation for creating communities where people work, live, and raise families.

That's why I've introduced a plan to “Invest in Small Business for a Thriving Community.” You can read more about it on my website - but there are three key pillars:
1. Protect Vital Business and Revitalize Street Level Retail
2. Invest in Women- and Minority-Owned Businesses
3. Provide Entrepreneurs a Safety Net for Market Mishaps

Small businesses need more advocates in Washington. Donate here to help us get there. ([link removed])

As our economy transforms, we must keep our communities intact while we pave the way for economic development. I hope you'll support me so that I can bring this plan to D.C.!

All my best,
Lindsey

P.S. For those of you doing any last-minute shopping before the holidays, please consider supporting your local small businesses.
