When I think of someone who is a righteous fighter, I think of Ayanna Pressley.
Ayanna is one of the main leaders who fought to get student debt cancellation over the finish line — and I’m so proud to have partnered with her in this fight. (You can read more about how Ayanna and I used the stories we heard from our constituents in Massachusetts and years of persistence to get this done here.)
As we kept up the fight for student debt cancellation, we continually heard the same thing over and over. That canceling student debt was never going to happen. That we were never going to get something like this done.
My response to that was: You don’t get what you don’t fight for — and it sounds like you haven’t met Ayanna Pressley yet.
Simply put, this would not have happened without Ayanna — and the members of this movement. If you’re able, will you please split a contribution between Ayanna’s and my’s re-election campaigns so we can continue fighting side by side and achieve more wins for working people?
Let’s recap the immediate impact of the student debt cancellation plan President Biden just signed:
Twenty million borrowers now owe $0 in student loan debt. And another 23 million have had their debt burden reduced. These are working-class and middle-class Americans who didn’t come from families that could write big tuition checks. Around 40 percent of borrowers don’t have a four-year college diploma. And Pell Grant recipients are getting the most help, who are disproportionately first-generation students, parents who ended up going back to school, and people of color.
And there’s a deep and personal story behind every single one of these numbers and statistics.
Ayanna Pressley's bold, principled leadership is what got this done — and is more needed than ever. If you can, will you split a contribution between Ayanna Pressley's campaign and Warren Democrats, so we can keep up our fight and elect more champions like her up and down the ballot?
