Next Generation Nursing Assistant Initiative Extended to February 2023

After?meeting the initial goal of recruiting and training 1,000 new nursing assistants [ [link removed] ], the Next Generation Nursing Assistant (NA) initiative?has been extended and will be offering more free training and certification opportunities throughout the state until February 2023.?The $2.4 million initiative, announced by the Office of Governor Tim Walz on Sept. 1 [ [link removed] ], provides any interested Minnesotan with a tuition-free pathway toward a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification, including free training, books, uniforms, and cost of certification exam.?

Successes of the Program

Since December 2021, 1,370 Minnesotans have become certified nursing assistants, strengthening the state?s health care workforce pipeline. The NA initiative has raised awareness about the importance, value and necessity of the nursing assistant profession, along with reporting significant participant progress and bridging participant and employer connections. Ready, Set, FAFSA! Upcoming Financial Aid Webinar Series For College-Bound Students and Families

Ready, Set, FAFSA Details:

* Tuesdays at 7pm; Starting September 27th through October 25th
* All sessions will be approximately one hour long with a short presentation from financial aid experts.
* Interpreters will be available in Spanish, Hmong and Somali.
* Participant questions will be answered live in the chat.
* Students who attend these sessions will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 scholarship!

David J. Tomassoni ALS Research Grant Program - Request For Proposals Application Period Open

The David J. Tomassoni?Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Research Grant Program has opened its grant application period and is currently accepting proposals? to accelerate ALS research.

Named after the late Minnesota Senator, the David J. Tomassoni ALS Research Grant was instated to provide funding for translational research that leads to the prevention, functional improvement, and curative efforts for people with ALS.?Tomassoni was diagnosed with ALS in 2021 and passionately advocated for research into the rare disease. In his final term as a Senator, he successfully authored and passed the legislation that provided $25 million in one-time funding to support ALS research and caregiver resources.

In consultation with the Minnesota Department of Health and the ALS Association, OHE is accepting proposals to accelerate research into ALS knowledge, prevention, and treatment.?Eligible grant applicants must be lead institutions/organizations located within Minnesota and fall into one or more of the following categories: research facilities, universities, and health care systems located in Minnesota.?

Free Webinar Series - Parenting in College: The Whole Family Approach

Join us for a FREE, virtual three-part series?focused on parenting students in Minnesota!

These sessions are created for parenting students, campus leaders, student support staff, social workers, childcare providers, and stakeholders who are interested in contributing to an environment for student parents to succeed in higher education.

Participants will learn from leading experts about strategies to support parenting students, how to create meaningful change at both the individual level and across complex systems, and build an understanding of how parenting students fit into the broader discussions around equity in higher education.
