Beyond Homeless shows how the U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) policy, called “Housing First”, shifted the government’s focus from emergency shelters and transitional housing to permanent housing for the homeless.
Besides being extraordinarily expensive, this housing takes a long, long time to build. It also diverts money away from more important resources for the homeless—such as mental health services, addiction services, and physical health services.
We can’t afford to simply sit and watch as failed state-run programs continue to fleece taxpayers, bloat budgets, and worst of all, make the lives of the homeless worse.
Fortunately, Beyond Homeless presents transformational, proven solutions that will make a difference in people’s lives. People living on the streets may be homeless, but they need not be hopeless.
Let’s pull together to get this crisis under control.
