*Allowing Veterans to enjoy time at ?the lake?*

As another beautiful Minnesota summer winds down, many of us reflect on our memories of going ?up north? or spending time at ?the lake.? The land of 10,000 lakes certainly provides ample opportunities for outdoor enjoyment.

I was reminded of the peace and healing that can come from time near and on the water during a recent visit to Veterans on the Lake Resort in Ely. I joined State Rep. Rob Ecklund, St. Louis County Commissioner Paul McDonald, and Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board representatives Jason Metsa and Chris Ismil to learn more about this hidden gem.

Minnesota loses more than 100 Veterans a year to suicide. This is a tragedy that the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) is committed to ending [ [link removed] ].

September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. While suicide prevention is important to address year-round, Suicide Prevention Awareness Month provides a dedicated time for people, organizations and communities to join their voices to broadcast the message that suicide can be prevented, and healing is possible. Everyone has a role to play to save lives and create healthy and strong individuals, families and communities. We can come together to reduce factors that increase the risk for suicidal thoughts and behavior, and increase the factors that help strengthen, support and protect people from suicide.

Post 9/11 Veteran Service Bonus Available

post 9-11

The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) has a long history of awarding service bonuses to Minnesota Veterans who served in America?s wars. Starting in 1919 after World War I, through World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, and now the Global War on Terrorism. MDVA recognizes the sacrifices and courage Minnesotans took to defend our country.

The 2022 Legislature passed and Governor Walz signed the first-ever Veterans Omnibus Bill that included funding for a service bonus payable to eligible Veterans who served from 9/11/01 to 8/30/21. MDVA is honored to facilitate this program for eligible Veterans, currently serving service members, or Veterans' beneficiaries.

The application period began on July 7, 2022. The last day to apply is June 30, 2024, unless the funds have been exhausted by then.
