CDT
From all of us at CDT, we hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday! Before we head into the new year, here's a last update.
A new look: CDT recently rolled out an updated online home for our work. The new site provides a detailed look at the full range of issues that CDT works on, from election security to federal privacy legislation to our advocacy in the European Union. We hope you’ll take a look — visit us at cdt.org!
Tech Talk: On CDT’s podcast, we recently discussed intellectual property and social justice, what we learned at CDT’s Future of Speech Online conference this year, and how one foundation is using data and technology to help people around the world access financing.
Children’s privacy online: As the ecosystem of websites and online services has grown more complex over the years, the environment for children online has changed, and so has the challenge of protecting their privacy in the digital world. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is looking at revising the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule to account for these changes, and CDT recently submitted comments asking the FTC to align the Rule more closely with other privacy frameworks and laws such as the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act. We also urged the FTC to ensure that the Rule does not inadvertently suppress the creation of child-directed or adult-oriented speech.
