As salaamu Alaikum. The Trump administration has proven disastrous for so many vulnerable populations—from families separated at the border to Palestinians living under occupation.
Since taking office, the recently impeached president has waged a war on the Palestinian people and wreaked havoc on their daily lives. Like us, many of you have watched in horror as Trump unilaterally signed away our rights to Jerusalem and relocated the US embassy there, closed the office of the PLO mission in Washington, D.C., and defunded UNRWA in an attempt to force a new definition of a Palestinian refugee.
This year, Trump hit a new low in his administration’s decision to embrace illegal settlements in the West Bank and effectively green-light Israel’s land annexation. Last week, his Executive Order threatened students who dare speak out in support of Palestinian rights. It’s clear the Trump administration is determined to compel Palestinians to surrender. We know these attacks won't stop, but we will never surrender.
In fact, over the last three years, we’ve been more determined than ever to increase our organizing efforts for freedom and justice in Palestine. We’ve committed the resources to growing our base and expanding our reach across the country. We’re excited to share with you below some of our achievements in 2019 which show that there remains tremendous opportunity in this political climate.
Public opinion polls have in recent years revealed a major shift in American attitudes which have become increasingly critical of Israel and more favorable toward Palestinians. Israel is poised to lose the status it has long enjoyed as a bipartisan issue, with many, particularly among millennials and Democrats, growing more sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. The future could be in favor of Palestine, but that will not happen if we do not invest in it and reap the political rewards.
