Well folks,
It’s that time again. The end of the third fiscal quarter of the year -- the final full fiscal quarter before the election-- is right around the corner on September 30.
And yes, that does mean your inbox is about to get a bit more crowded with candidates explaining just how important that September 30th deadline is. Apologies in advance. In the spirit of transparency, let me take a moment to explain why this upcoming deadline is so important.
I’ve told you before that people running for office are federally required to report how much money they’ve raised and how much they have in the bank four times a year, at the end of each fiscal quarter. And, I’ve told you that the numbers reported at the end of each quarter are one of the best indicators of a campaign's continued strength. They show how much money each candidate is working with, if the campaign is being run in a sustainable way (aka, if they are raising enough money to keep up with how much they are spending), and the level of grassroots support behind each candidate.
It also gives both allies and competitors a gauge of what flexibility you have for those crazy 5 final weeks of the campaign, where pop-up issues are the norm.
Since this is our last “end-of-quarter” before Election Day – it’s our last chance to tangibly show our strength ahead of the election. These end-of-quarter numbers will be published on October 15th, so right before the election. And frankly, the last month is when the funds you donate can be put to maximum use.
I’ve made it a priority to never spam your inbox by pushing fake deadlines or creating a false sense of urgency. Which is why I only ever bring up the deadlines that actually matter – like this upcoming one on September 30th.
So, I hope you’ll bear with me as we head into our last “end-of-quarter” push before Election Day. And, if you’re willing, chip in below to help us finish out these next few weeks strong.
