Dear Friends,
Two journalists, Tayson Latigue and Frantzsen Charles, were gunned down in cold blood while reporting in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, on 11 September. Their deaths have brought the number of journalists killed in Haiti since the start of the year to four. How many more journalists will have to be murdered before the country’s authorities take action?
The journalists had gone into the capital’s poorest neighbourhood to report on the high level of gang violence prevailing there and, ambushed by gunmen as they left, they paid with their lives for their commitment to covering Haiti’s problems. RSF is shocked and alarmed by the escalating violence against the media in Haiti. Those responsible for these cold-blooded murders must be identified and brought to justice without delay. The almost total impunity for murders and disappearances of journalists in Haiti must end.
Support Haiti’s media, which are exposed to an extremely dangerous environment. Help RSF to combat the spiralling violence.
