Dear

It has been a historic week in Washington. Much of the coverage has been focused on the impeachment of President Donald Trump, but I wanted to write to you about four important bills the House passed over the last week.

America put their trust in us when Democrats were overwhelmingly elected in districts across the country last year. And we've delivered on our promises to lower prescription drug costs, uphold protections for pre-existing conditions, repeal Trump's SALT deduction cap, protect our elections, focus on ending gun violence and defend our democracy.

Here's a summary:

HR 3 the Elijah E. Cummings Lower Drug Costs Now Act
  • Lowers the price of prescription drug prices and gives Medicare the ability to negotiate directly with drug companies. This is a priority for all families.
SALT Cap Partial Repeal
  • Repeals the Republican tax law's cap on the state and local tax (SALT) deduction. This tax law disproportionately affected Connecticut and needs to be repealed.
USMCA
  • Strengthens worker protections and increases America’s global competitiveness through a landmark, bipartisan trade agreement. Democrats negotiated major improvements to Trump's original version of this deal that will also protect our environment and support Connecticut workers and families.
Government spending package
  • Assists Connecticut with more than $12 billion of funding for submarine construction, addresses our crumbling foundations and supports workforce training and development programs;
  • Secures $25 million for gun violence research for the first time in more than 20 years;
  • Increases education funding and boosts IDEA Grants;
  • Repeals the “Cadillac Tax” - the excise tax on health insurance plans;
  • Invests in election security with $415 million for election security grants to protect our elections
  • And much more.
This is Democrats delivering on our promises to the American people. And we aren't done. We still have more work to do next year, and we will keep fighting for you.

Jim
