Protecting the Constitution: The Threats and How to Fight Back
What: Heritage celebrates Constitution Day with an event exploring the greatest threats to our constitutional rights and how we can conquer them.
Who: Tommy Binion, Heritage vice president of government relations, leads the discussion along with Wyoming attorney Harriet Hageman, who has spent a lifetime upholding the values of the Constitution in the legal and political arenas.
Why: “There’s no better time than Constitution Day to highlight a champion of our nation’s founding document and everything it represents,” Binion told The Hill <[link removed]>.
- Hageman added: “I am proud to be associated with The Heritage Foundation, one of the leading defenders of our Constitution and conservative principles.”
When: Today, Sept. 19, 5 p.m.

Heritage Exposes the Myth of Voter Suppression
Scare tactics: The Left attacks any attempt to secure the integrity of our elections as a “voter suppression scheme.”
- Fred Lucas, chief news correspondent and manager of the Investigative Reporting Project for The Daily Signal, reveals the truth in his new book, “The Myth of Voter Suppression: The Left’s Assault on Clean Elections.”
- The book also exposes the big money bankrolling the voter-suppression-hysteria industrial complex.
Our take: “‘The Myth of Voter Suppression' marshals years of investigative research and reporting into a timely and definitive guide to American election integrity and its enemies,” writes Heritage President Kevin Roberts in the foreword.

Teachers Union Antics Make the Case for School Choice
Putting students last: The teachers union in Ohio’s largest district barred 50,000 students from class for an entire week in early August. The reason: Its members wanted a raise.
- This move is the latest in an ugly pattern of union and administration antics that have caused devastating harm to students.
- School systems blame a lack of cash, despite receiving $200 billion in federal relief funds.
- Read the commentary <[link removed]> by Jonathan Butcher, Will Skillman fellow in education, and Jason Bedrick, research fellow in the Center for Education Policy.
The real answer: Parents should have more and better choices about where their children go to school. Heritage’s new Education Freedom Report Card <[link removed]> ranks states on this score.

Twitter Whistleblower Shows Why Congress Must Act to Protect Data Privacy
Whistle blown: Peiter Zatko, former head of security at Twitter, told Congress about the company’s failure to protect user data. Among the revelations:
- More than 4,000 employees have unrestricted access to user data and messages,
- At least one Chinese agent worked at Twitter, and
- Twitter has forgone proper internal regulation.
How to respond: “Congress should pursue all-encompassing tech legislation that includes antitrust measures, speech protections, data privacy, and child protection,” writes Will Thibeau, a policy analyst in Heritage’s Tech Policy Center. Read more here <[link removed]>.
ALWAYS ON OFFENSE
Heritage Fights Beltway Establishment
Hackles raised: Heritage’s position on Ukraine aid—that it should be targeted, paid for, and accountable—has raised hackles in some quarters and resulted in a spate of attack pieces last week.
- Heritage President Kevin Roberts responded in a sharply worded tweet to these “baseless attacks from the cocktail-party class on the great work of my colleagues.”
Standing tall: “Heritage will always fight like hell for the forgotten Americans who are sick & tired of business as usual,” Roberts wrote <[link removed]>.
