Last week, Senate leaders announced they WON’T be voting to codify marriage equality until after the November election because apparently they can’t find 10 Republicans willing to stand up for equality.

 

One of those Republicans who refuses to stand up for our rights is my opponent, Mike Crapo – our senator for 24 years.

 

Senate Republicans have already admitted they plan to push for a national abortion ban if they retake the majority in November. Marriage equality and other LGBTQ+ rights may well be next.

 

As a single gay dad, I worry about what the GOP’s threats mean for my family.

 

It’s only been in the last 5-10 years that single gay adoptions came to be accepted, opening up thousands of loving homes to children languishing in foster care. Now I have to worry not only about how a rollback of my civil rights will impact me, but how it may hurt my boys, as well.

I previously served as a foster parent, always volunteering to take older kids because that is the greatest need. That’s how Parker and Robert came into my life.

 

When I learned that a family was planning to adopt Parker but not his older brother, I fought like hell to keep them together – and adopted them both.

 

I refused to let my boys be separated then, and I will not let our family be split apart now.

 

We know what Republicans are plotting, John, that’s why we CANNOT allow them to retake the majority in November.

 

I am the ONLY openly gay Senate candidate on the ballot this November. I need your help to defeat Republican Mike Crapo and fight for ALL of our civil rights. Will you pitch in now to stand up to hate?

 

 

I am ready to flip this U.S. Senate seat and go to Washington to stand up for those often left behind.

 

We had a great boost in fundraising last week, and I’m so grateful to everyone who pitched in.

 

Unfortunately the last few days things have slowed down again, and now we’re trending behind where we need to be with our end of quarter filing deadline fast approaching.

 

I need to raise another $4,083 by midnight tonight to get back on track before the new week starts. Can you pitch in $50, $100, or more to our grassroots campaign now?

 

With our civil rights under attack, it’s more important than ever that we elect representatives from marginalized communities to stand up for equal rights.
