John,
As Donald Trump’s presidency wound down, he took steps to destroy our Social Security system. He started the stealth privatization of Medicare, eliminated Social Security’s dedicated funding, and members of his party began moving the pieces into place for a fast-tracked process to change Social Security.
If Republicans get the chance, they’ll do it again. We’re making sure voters know that Social Security is on the ballot this November! Donate $7 today!
Thanks,

John,
Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, I’ve talked to abortion rights activists about why they thought Republicans have been so much better at mobilizing their base than Democrats were―and the answer was surprising.
Even after the decision overturning Roe was leaked, many Democratic voters still didn’t believe that they would go through with it! 50 years of stability lulled Democrats into complacency. We need to take that lesson to heart: Republicans really do want to carry out their plans, no matter how much they upset the status quo.
So when Republican Senators like Ron Johnson, Marco Rubio, or Rick Scott announce their plans to destroy Social Security and Medicare, we need to make sure that voters believe them.
When someone tells you who they are, believe them!
Social Security Works is making sure that every voter knows the stakes for this election―Republicans want to destroy Social Security and Medicare, while Democrats want to expand them. Donate $7 to get the word out!
Wall Street and its allies have been trying to destroy Social Security for nearly twice as long as they tried to overturn Roe v. Wade. Voters need to believe that if they get the chance, politicians who have dedicated their careers to enriching their corporate masters―politicians like Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy―will absolutely seize the chance to end our Social Security system once and for all.
Maybe it won’t come with a bang, like the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision. But you can just look at the game plan from the end of the Trump era:
-
Defund Social Security and Medicare by suspending payroll contributions as an economic stimulus measure
-
Use the disappearance of Social Security’s dedicated funding as a pretense to enact Mitt Romney’s TRUST Act, which creates a fast-tracked, closed-door process to force changes to Social Security
-
Privatize Social Security, letting Wall Street capture billions of dollars in new fees
Because of our activism, they never got past step 1. But they laid the groundwork for steps 2 and 3.
Remember: Republicans already tried to privatize Social Security in 2005. They’ll do it again if they have the chance.
Make sure that every voter knows the stakes for Social Security this November. Donate $7 to save Social Security from Republicans!
Thanks,
