Earlier this week, Lindsey Graham introduced an extreme 15-week nationwide abortion ban in the Senate that’s a direct threat to women’s freedom.

While right-wing legislatures have acted to ban or restrict abortion rights, states like California have acted to defend abortion rights in the wake of the right-wing Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June.

But it’s clear we need action – immediately – at the federal level.

Mitch McConnell stacked the Supreme Court by depriving President Obama of an appointment — keeping a vacancy open for nearly a year until confirming Trump’s nominee Neil Gorsuch.

Then Republicans rammed through Brett Kavanaugh in one of the most divisive Supreme Court nominations in our nation’s history.

And against the dying wishes of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and in contradiction to McConnell’s “election year rule” that blocked Merrick Garland more than 8 months from a national election, the GOP confirmed Amy Coney Barrett in October 2020 during a national election in which millions of votes had already been cast for Joe Biden.

Republicans have robbed the Supreme Court of its legitimacy. They are attacking our fundamental freedoms and destroying our institutions to achieve their ends.

To make the Senate work again, restore balance to the Supreme Court, and protect abortion rights nationwide, we need to act.
