This past week, I introduced the PRO-LIFE Act in the House.

Before you spit out your coffee, rest assured: My stance on abortion rights hasn't changed one bit.

When it goes up for a vote, the PRO-LIFE Act (known in full as the Providing Real Opportunities and Lifelong Investments For Everyone Act) will show Americans which representatives are interested in supporting parents, kids, and family life -- the very thing that happens after we are born.

More importantly, if passed, it will build a country where everyone has better access to health care, child care, education, and paid leave.

My bill wasn’t the only one introduced in Congress last week. On Tuesday, Senator Lindsey Graham introduced a bill to ban abortions after 15 weeks nationwide.

This is the long game Republicans in Congress have been playing: fill the Supreme Court with radical conservatives, overturn the constitutional right to abortion, and end reproductive freedom nationwide. For what?

It’s a cynical strategy with a heartless outcome.

The PRO-LIFE Act is just the opposite. It's a set of popular, family-focused policies -- and you can sign on in support right now. Republicans have blocked these policies in the past, but we have a real shot at passing them if we expand our Democratic majorities this year. The PRO-LIFE Act would:

Give Americans paid family and medical leave (for instance, after the birth of a child)

Give parents a monthly monetary credit for each child they're raising

Provide grants for child care facilities and incentives for people to start careers in child care and early childhood education

Recognize employers that subsidize child care and help employees pay for adoption services, and provide additional paid family and sick leave

Save lives of people giving birth and end racial disparities in maternal health

Expand health care for children
