Monday, September 12th: On Saturday, I was honored to speak at the Okefenokee Rural Electric Membership Corporation’s (REMC) 83rd annual meeting held at Brantley County High School in Nahunta and bring the crowd of over 700 an update on current legislative issues.
Yesterday, I was honored to speak at the Richmond Hill Remembers 9/11 service held at J.F. Gregory Park and hosted by Bethel Baptist Church of Richmond Hill. This outstanding service included special music, recognition of our first responders and military and a great message delivered by Pastor Brian Cooper. It is important for us to continue to observe this tragic event in our country’s history and honor those who lost their lives 21 years ago and those that fought and died in the War on Terrorism that followed.
I’m up early this morning and have a phone interview with the economic writers with the Atlanta Journal Constitution to discuss the $5.5 billion electric vehicle Hyundai plant proposed to be built in Bryan County and the negative impact Washington Democrats' Inflation "Reduction" Act may have on its completion.
Next, I have a meeting in Pooler with a local realtor to discuss future development plans in West Chatham County before heading to downtown Savannah to visit the Tomochichi Courthouse for an update on the renovation and tour of the construction site. We are led on the tour by Judge Stan Baker who explains how the building was originally constructed as the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse and details the changes and improvements being made to modernize the historic structure in order to meet the Federal Judiciary’s current and long-term needs for security, accessibility, and operational efficiency.
After a great visit, I head to Savannah Global Logistics Park in Port Wentworth in Chatham County where my good friend Scott Fletcher takes me on a tour of this innovative project that houses logistics companies.
Next, I head back to downtown Savannah where I attend the Savannah Downtown Rotary Club weekly meeting. This week’s guest speaker is my former Georgia House of Representatives suite mate, Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge).
Afterwards, I head to Tybee Island where I join in on the monthly meeting of the Friends of the Cockspur Lighthouse to hear of their plans for renovation and upkeep of this historic site.
Next, I head to Sapelo Hammock in McIntosh County for a meeting with constituents and Speaker Ralston.
