Thanks to you and 136 000 signers of our latest petition, we stopped the Poland delegation to vote for a pro-abortion UN resolution!
Over 136,000 of us CitizenGO members worldwide came together in less than 48 hours to stop the insidious pro-abortion resolution in the UN General Assembly according which states should promote "access to safe abortion."
It is unacceptable, as we all know that safe abortion does not exist. In every abortion, a child is killed. Plus every abortion hurts women as well.
Unfortunately, the resolution was accepted by the member states. According to the experts, the adopted resolution is a dangerous step towards the international acceptance of abortion as a human right in the UN!
We had been shocked to see that the otherwise family-friendly Hungary and Poland were also among the sponsors of this resolution, so in our petition we asked them to immediately change their position and vote down the decision.
Our campaign proved to be successful in relation to Poland, as Polish diplomats did not participate in the vote as a result even though they planned to do so even hours before the meeting started.
During our background lobbying your signatures were essential, dear friends! So we are very grateful for your support!
We did not succeed in Hungary though. Unfortunately the Hungarians voted for the resolution together with the mostly Leftist and Liberal pro-abortion governments. Since the communist forced abortion on Hungarians in 1956, Hungary could not end abortion that resulted the death of more than 6 million children… As this vote also proves, there is a lot to do in Hungary, [your country] and in and many other countries as well to stop abortion and turn the culture of death to culture of life.
We were impactful in Poland, but I find something alaming.
How was it possible that Poland sponsored this resolution?
Why was it only after our petition and literally hours before the vote that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs changed its earlier instruction to the Polish delegation from voting in favor of the resolution to ultimately not participating in the ballot?
Why did Poland, a signatory to the 2020 Geneva Consensus, remain silent at the UN on abortion?
Let me remind you that the Geneva Consensus is a document that emphasizes that:
- every human being has an inalienable right to the protection of life;
- there is no concept of “right to abortion” in the international human rights protection system,
- each state has the right to shape its legislation in this regard,
- The United Nations system is critical in implementing the above values.
As CitizenGO, this case shows us the importance of citizen pressure on politicians. Their pro-life declarations should not just remain on paper but should be proclaimed and defended in the international institutions where they are supposed to represent us, the citizens.
We will continue to closely watch the actions of Polish diplomacy and always intervene in defense of life, family, and freedom.
We will also try to reveal how Poland came to sponsor such a resolution.
We will try to discover the mechanisms and people behind such decisions in the government and ministries.
We promise that, with your help, we will do everything possible to ensure pressure on decision-makers in the future.
Poland should never again take a position in international forums incompatible with the Polish constitution, Polish legislation, and the decades-old established line of the jurisprudence of the Polish Constitutional Court on abortion.
We will continue the fight, thank you for being with us!
Best regards:
