News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

I’ve heard from many constituents who have been impacted by a process known as “Prior Authorization,” which has led to problems getting the care they need from their Medicare Advantage plan. This practice gets between patients and their doctor by requiring pre-approval to provide care they agree is best.  As a result, seniors are delayed, and sometimes denied, the care they need and health care costs are higher for everyone.

That is why this week, the House passed the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act (H.R. 3173), which would drastically limit the amount of time an insurance company has to approve a procedure, in many cases requiring the decision be made instantly. It also requires the system be modernized so doctors can reduce costs and waste less time on paperwork. These reforms would make a huge difference for seniors, their families, and their providers.

I was proud to support this legislation through the Ways and Means Committee, on the House Floor, and now it is headed to the Senate. I will continue to support efforts to make health care affordable and accessible.
