Dear John,

Have you heard that immediately before our Gala for Western Civilization on Oct. 13th, ISI will be hosting a Modern Age panel featuring Harvard professor of government Harvey Mansfield?

Later that evening, we will be presenting him with ISI’s most prestigious honor, the Charles H. Hoeflich Lifetime Achievement Award.

Professor Mansfield is one of the most important thinkers in the country. It’s hard to think of a more consequential conservative, not only on account of his own award-winning work on Machiavelli, Tocqueville, Burke, and others, but also through the work of his students. Some of the most influential people in American politics—from Francis Fukuyama and Charles Kesler to Andrew Sullivan and Sen. Tom Cotton—have been students of Harvey Mansfield and received the inestimable benefit of hearing his ideas expressed in person.

We want to give you the same opportunity. Before the Gala, Professor Mansfield will be speaking at our Modern Age panel from 3-5 p.m. at the Willard InterContinental Hotel in Washington, D.C. This will be a chance to hear Professor Mansfield provide insights into some of the most profound questions confronting our country today (and for all time).

I look forward to moderating the panel in my role as editor-in-chief of Modern Age. Sam Goldman (George Washington University) and Vickie Sullivan (Tufts University) will join Professor Mansfield as panelists.

This panel is free to attend and will include ample time for audience Q&A.

I hope to see you there and that you will join us for the Gala for Western Civilization afterward.
