Learn more about what my office has been up to Dear john, Congress returned to Washington this week, and I wanted to share a few highlights from the last few days on Capitol Hill: Making Education More Affordable A high-quality education is still one of the best ways to prepare our students for success, and our work to make a college degree affordable and accessible is more important than ever. I joined several of my colleagues on the Education and Labor Committee to introduce the LOAN Act (Lowering Obstacles to Achievement Now) to help address the student debt crisis, make college more affordable, and expand access to a high-quality college degree. The new legislation builds on President Biden’s historic one-time student loan debt relief announcement last month to forgive up to $20,000 in outstanding federal student loan debt for millions of borrowers. Ending Cancer As We Know It President Biden delivered a “Cancer Moonshot” speech this week on the 60th anniversary of President Kennedy’s “Moonshot” Address that marked the start of our journey to sending a man to the moon. I’m a two-time breast cancer survivor, and twice my loved ones felt the impact of my diagnosis. Together, we can improve the future for all Americans. Meeting with Our Home Depot Neighbors As part of their “Aprons on the Hill” visit to Washington, I met with Home Depot’s Georgia associates to talk about the importance of retail security and my co-sponsorship of the INFORM Consumers Act. It’s always a pleasure to see our Georgia neighbors in our nation’s capital! My office is continuing to accept applications for my November 10th Vietnam War Pinning Ceremony. Are you a veteran who served during the Vietnam War? Do you have family or friends who served? Please join me in spreading the word to all eligible Sixth District Vietnam War veterans--it is so important that we recognize them for their service to this country.
