Obesity rates drop in 41 states and territories

Obesity rates have dropped among young children from lower-income families. But the latest data show that obesity continues to be a major threat to children's health:

  • Roughly 1 in every 7 children ages 10 to 17 has obesity.
  • Rates for black and Hispanic youth are significantly higher than their white and Asian peers.

Obesity is one symptom of larger, more systemic problems regarding health and equity in our society. We have the power to change these outcomes and make our nation a more equitable society.
