John,
Cori's not a career politician. In fact, she’s just the opposite. Cori got her start as an activist, nurse, and mother who rose to the task following the murder of Michael Brown Jr. just 10 minutes away from her home.
She brings her identity as a community organizer, activist, nurse, and mother to Congress every single day, and it’s what makes her an effective and much-needed leader – especially in a room that’s traditionally excluded voices like Cori’s.
In 2020, Cori made history when (thanks to the power of this grassroots movement), she defeated a 20-year incumbent and became the first activist from the movement in defense of Black lives elected to federal office and the first Black woman to represent the state of Missouri in Congress.
Now, it’s up to us to ensure that we keep Cori in Congress. There, she will continue to bring the voices of marginalized communities who are too often left out of the conversation to the forefront and fight for bold, progressive change through legislation like the Green New Deal for Cities and the People’s Response Act. So, we're asking:
We set a goal to raise $15,000 by tonight's midnight deadline, and right now we're tracking behind. Please, if you're able, can you chip in $5 before midnight to make sure we re-elect Cori this November and keep her in Congress fighting for all of us?
As a politician and activist, Cori isn't willing to sit on the sidelines while our country is hit with extreme floods, fires, and heatwaves, or while children go hungry, and people struggle to make ends meet.
Instead, she uses her power as a member of Congress to organize for direct change. It's why she led five days of direct action outside of the Capitol last summer, organizing both Congress and the White House for an extension of the eviction moratorium, and it's why she was arrested outside of the Supreme Court this summer protesting for reproductive rights.
But this is only possible if we have grassroots folks like you stepping up with $5 and $15 donations when they can.
It's critical we keep our fundraising strong so Cori has the resources to win her re-election in November and start her second term in Congress. Can you chip in $5 or more to help meet our $15,000 goal before midnight?
Together,
Team Cori
