It is with great privilege and honor that we announce renowned scholar, respected author and passionate activist, Dr. Anan Ameri, as the recipient of our 2020 Arab American of the Year award at our upcoming 49th Annual Dinner taking place on Friday, March 6, 2020!
For over four decades, Dr. Ameri has tirelessly dedicated her career to advocating for social justice and equity, immigrant rights and uplifting and preserving Arab American stories. She is a recognized community leader and decorated award winner, and was inducted into the Michigan Hall of Fame in 2016.
Dr. Ameri is the founding director of our Arab American National Museum (AANM). During her tenure at AANM, she secured the Museum's Smithsonian Affiliation, making it the only Arab American organization in this prominent network. Dr. Ameri also garnered AANM's American Alliance of Museums accreditation — an alliance promoting the success, growth and preservation of museums across the nation. Both titles reflect AANM's commitment to both its local and national communities and establish AANM's reputation as Arab American storytellers and educators, granting us access to vital resources. Dr. Ameri was also the director of the Palestine Aid Society of America. During her time as director, the organization had over 4,000 members, 12 chapters and four offices in various U.S. cities, including a national office in Washington, D.C.
We are tremendously honored that Dr. Ameri will be accepting our 2020 Arab American of the Year award, especially as we celebrate our Museum's 15th anniversary. Don't miss the opportunity to be a part of our signature annual event, as we recognize this distinguished award recipient.
The ACCESS 49th Annual Dinner will take place at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center at 6 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020. For more information, contact Nissrine Hussein at 313.842.4748 or [email protected].
