South Bend, the city where Pete Buttigieg is mayor, is considering a plan where the public school district would run charter schools but those teachers couldn't join the teachers union.
While Pete was with McKinsey, he was part of a team that advised that the Post Office be privatized, stop running on weekends, and shut down its union.
Tell Pete: Don't privatize public schools. Don't bust unions. Don't privatize the Post Office.
On charter schools, Vice reports "The media has not pressed Buttigieg much on charters, or even on public education, perhaps because he was polling relatively low for much of the race. But Buttigieg, who is now leading in some Iowa caucus surveys, has been holding private fundraisers with a number of prominent charter school supporters, according to invitations reviewed by VICE."
And, on privatizing the Post Office, Huffington Post reports: "In 2010, the Postal Service hired private consultants who advised it to cut back operation days, increase mail delivery times, automate postal services and replace unionized labor with non-unionized labor. Pete Buttigieg was on that team of consultants as an employee with McKinsey & Company."
The article continues: "Another of McKinsey’s proposals, to cut costs by establishing public-private partnerships, replaced unionized Postal Service workers with staff at retail stores like Staples...'Any objective observer would have to say McKinsey had a real and negative impact,' said Mark Dimondstein, the president of the American Postal Workers Union."
