Hispanic Heritage month is officially underway, and it’s a special time to pay tribute to the culture and history of our Latino communities. Hispanic Americans have shaped our country, and I’m excited to celebrate the progress we’ve made.

I am a proud Latina, raised by immigrant parents from Mexico. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, they became the only parents in our country’s history to have two daughters serving in Congress!

This is not only a time to celebrate the progress we’ve made. It’s also a time to reflect on the progress that we have yet to make. Our country’s economy cannot be successful without the contributions of Hispanic Americans, and we must address the gaps in education, pay, health care, and more. We must also enact comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship so families can stay together.

I hope everyone will join me in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month while reflecting on the work we still need to do.
