John, With former President Trump signaling that he will run for president again in 2024, chief election officials across the country must abide by the Constitution and bar Trump from the ballot. Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment (the Insurrectionist Disqualification Clause) makes clear that anyone who takes an oath of office to defend the Constitution and then engages in insurrection is forever barred from holding public office again. Donald Trump incited the insurrection on January 6, 2021, and is disqualified from appearing on any future ballot. Sign the petition: Bar Trump and his insurrectionist allies from the ballot. We’ve established critical precedent for applying the Insurrectionist Disqualification Clause to Donald Trump, the insurrectionist-in-chief, should he decide to run for president again. Just days ago, Section 3 was applied to remove Couy Griffin from his post as a commissioner for New Mexico’s Otero County for his actions on January 6th. Members of Congress, meanwhile, are drafting legislation seeking to open avenues of civil action to disqualify insurrectionists from holding public office. The evidence is irrefutable: Donald Trump incited a violent insurrection in an effort to overturn the results of a democratic election. He is therefore disqualified from public office under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, and election officials have a responsibility to follow this constitutional mandate. Sign if you agree: Trump cannot be allowed to appear on any future ballot. In solidarity, Alexandra Flores-Quilty Campaign Director, Free Speech For People |
