Dear neighbor,
After the district work period, I’m pleased to be back in Washington this week as Democrats continue to put People Over Politics through our work in the House.
As you may have seen, GOP Senator Lindsey Graham introduced an extreme bill this week that would ban abortions nationwide. This is just the latest move by extreme MAGA Republicans in their attempts to strip away women’s freedom to make personal decisions about their own health and futures. It is pretty simple: Republicans want government-mandated pregnancies. Democrats support Roe v. Wade, and are actively fighting to defend women’s rights.
While Republicans focus on criminalizing women’s health care and ending Social Security, Democrats are working to help American families through legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act. This historic new law lowers prescription drug prices, reduces health care and energy costs, delivers the largest-ever federal investment in climate, and lowers the deficit and reduces inflation. I was proud to vote for this legislation that will benefit my constituents and our community for decades to come.
Here’s a look at what else I’ve been up to this week:
- Publicly condemned Azerbaijan’s unprovoked attack on Armenia’s border that was a clear violation of the ongoing peace process. I am thinking of all those affected by this egregious attack on Armenian sovereignty.
- Called out MAGA Republicans’ ongoing attempts to intimidate federal law enforcement out of investigating violence and threats of violence toward teachers and school officials in a Judiciary Committee markup.
- Voted in favor of bills to:
- Improve seniors’ timely access to health care.
- Expedite the delivery of federal disaster assistance and address the unmet needs of disaster survivors.
- Ensure a fair and accurate Census count.
