Dear John,

Today is National Prisoners of War (POW)/Missing in Action (MIA) Day, an opportunity for us to honor and remember the sacrifice and service of those who fought for our freedoms. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid, and we will never forget them.

This week, as Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, and Ebrahim Raisi met to team up against the free and democratic world, I introduced a bipartisan bill to preserve sanctions against Iran. Additionally, the National Taxpayers' Union announced their support for two of my bills to make government work better for Americans. Read below to learn about all this and more.

Preventing a Nuclear Iran
This week, Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV) and I led seventeen of our House colleagues to introduce the Solidify Iran Sanctions Act (SISA), to make the sanctions established by the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996 permanent and ensure the U.S. can maintain critical deterrents and apply pressure to the Iranian regime to prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons.

From brutal abuses committed against its own people, to its never-ending threats towards free and democratic societies, the Iranian regime has proven time and again that they are a rogue state with no interest in preserving regional or global peace. Without this legislation, 1996 Act will expire in 2026, and we will be left without a meaningful way to check Iranian hostility.

It is more important than ever that we prevent the unacceptable threat of a nuclear Iran from becoming a reality. Existing sanctions have proven successful in preventing such a catastrophe, and we must ensure that we can continue to place economic and strategic pressures on Iran to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons or supporting terrorists. I’m proud to lead this bipartisan group of my House colleagues to send a clear signal that the United States will not tolerate existential threats against us, our allies, or freedom and democracy around the world.
Thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Garden Grove for inviting me to provide an update on my work in Congress. We talked about the Administration’s $519 billion student debt cancellation plan and my work to keep costs low for California families.
I visited the Hebrew Academy Orange County, which was selected in 2019 as a pilot campus to create a model for the Safest School in America. Thanks to the Academy and S4S for showing me the work you’re doing to keep students safe!
Fighting for Taxpayers is a No-Brainer
This week the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) announced that two of my bills – the Stop the Nosy Obsession with Online Payments (SNOOP) Act  and the Telehealth Expansion Act – were included in their 12th annual “No Brainers” list of bills that Congress should pass in 2022. To qualify for inclusion on the list, legislation must be a “common-sense solution to a real problem facing taxpayers” that has never been included on previous lists and has bipartisan support.

As a lifelong tax fighter, I'm leading these two pieces of common-sense legislation to make government work better and more effectively for taxpayers, and I'm especially proud to be the only member of Congress leading two bills named to the No-Brainers List. I want to thank the National Taxpayers Union for their support of the SNOOP Act and the Telehealth Expansion Act, and I look forward to continued opportunities to partner with them as I keep fighting for the taxpayers in Orange County and across the country.
Let's stop punishing employers who want to help...

Employers are struggling to fill over 11 million open jobs. Employees are struggling to pay for child care, gas, and even food. And then, there is the struggle of paying off those student loans for many Americans.

Apply for the 2022 Congressional App Challenge
My office is now accepting submissions for the Congressional App Challenge (CAC). The CAC is a great way for middle and high school students from across the country to explore and improve their computer-based skills by creating original apps. This competition encourages computer science and innovation skills and offers an opportunity for students to explore potential careers in the STEM field.

Each winning app may be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and will be featured on the House of Representatives website. Winning students are also invited to the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington D.C.

The CAC is open to 6th - 12th grade students residing in or attending school in California’s 48th District. Teachers and/or students should verify their eligibility with our office by calling (714) 960-6483.
I'm pleased to announce that the Improving Seniors' Timely Access to Care Act, a bill I cosponsored to bring transparency and oversight to the Medicare Advantage program and reduce prior authorization wait times, passed the House this week. Learn More
