Dear JOHN xxxxxx,

This week I returned to Washington after spending the past six weeks home in Rochester. It was great to spend time with and hear directly from so many people across our community. And I was excited to get back to work in Washington and take action on the issues most important to you. Read more below on how I’m fighting to protect your fundamental rights and uplift families in our community:

 Safeguarding a Woman's Right to Choose 

Our worst fears are coming true: Republicans are moving forward with efforts to pass a national ban on abortion. This week, Senator Lindsey Graham introduced legislation that would strip away the healthcare rights of millions of women in every state—including here in New York.

I have always fought to protect a woman’s fundamental right to choose and make her own healthcare decisions. We must continue to stand united against the ongoing assault on women’s rights—that’s why I’ll continue working to pass legislation like the Women’s Health Protection Act that guarantees federal access to abortions, no matter what.

 Advancing the U.S.-Canada Partnership 

On Wednesday, I was proud to lead a meeting with Canadian Delegates and my fellow members of the Canada-US Interparliamentary Group to discuss how we can work together to advance the interests of our great nations. The United States and Canada have always shared a special relationship, and I’m grateful for our ongoing partnership and collaboration. Together, we’re working to strengthen our mutual trade and economic interests, enhance our Great Lakes communities, and protect democracy around the world. I look forward to our continued work together to advance solutions that benefit both the United States and Canada for years to come.

 Serving on the Appropriations Committee 

This week, I was humbled and honored to be appointed to the House Appropriations Committee. I am deeply grateful to my colleagues for the confidence they have placed in me and providing me a unique opportunity to advocate for funding and resources that will strengthen Monroe County.

I look forward to getting to work to advance policies that lower costs for families, create opportunity, and invest in the future of our communities.

 Celebrating Community Milestones 

Before leaving for Washington, I had the privilege of joining the Rochester Hearing and Speech Center to celebrate their centennial. The Rochester Hearing and Speech Center is one of our country’s leading centers for speech, language, and hearing services and is a critical resource for our community. I was proud to present them with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition to thank their employees for their years of dedicated service. Here’s to the next 100 years!
