Hello Friends,
I hope you had a great week! I wanted to update you on what I’ve been working on and share my Lower Costs & Stronger Economy Agenda that I unveiled earlier this week. My agenda is an overview of the action Congress has taken to reduce costs and address inflation, followed by a comprehensive roadmap for what more needs to be done to provide financial relief for Granite Staters.
|
We have taken critical steps to lower prices in the short-term and reduce inflation over the long-term by investing in our supply chains, reducing out-of-pocket costs in health care, releasing millions of barrels of oil from our strategic reserves, and repairing and rebuilding our roads, ports, and bridges. But we can’t stop here, and we won’t.

I am committed to continuing working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to meet the challenges our country faces head-on by providing relief to Granite Staters and investing in U.S. economic resilience, competitiveness, and innovation. That is exactly what I will work to deliver.

On National POW/MIA Recognition day, we honor and remember our nation’s service members who have spent time as POW or remain MIA.

On National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor and remember the service members who spent time as prisoners of war or remain missing in action and the families whose loved ones never returned home.
Today, I’m thinking of my father, Malcolm McLane, who was shot down in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII and spent months in a Nazi prisoner of war camp. My thoughts are with all of our nation’s POW/MIA service members, and my heart is with their families and loved ones.

Working to keep children safe online and prevent child sexual exploitation must be our top priority. As a founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence, I have been leading the way in implementing solutions to protect Granite State children.
This week, I helped to introduce bipartisan legislation that will be crucial to keeping kids safe. Especially as children are spending more time online, we must ensure law enforcement agencies have the tools and resources needed to protect children, help victims, and hold perpetrators of these horrific crimes accountable.

I was proud to co-sponsor and help to pass the Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act this week.
|
This week, legislation I co-sponsored to make it easier for New Hampshire seniors to get the care they need and improve health outcomes passed the House. The Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act is a bipartisan bill that modernizes Medicare Advantage’s outdated prior authorization process, which can result in delays in care.
When Granite State seniors go to the doctor, the focus should be on their health and well-being, not paperwork and approval processes that depend on fax machines and outdated technology. This legislation fixes the current prior authorization process for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries to help ensure seniors can get the care they need without facing unnecessary bureaucratic delays.

Speaking on the House floor in support of the Women’s Health Protection Act in July. This legislation would establish the right to abortion in the wake of SCOTUS overturning Roe v. Wade.
|
This week, Congressional Republicans showed their true colors when they introduced national abortion bans in both the House and the Senate. Despite what they have said in the past, Republicans don’t want to leave abortion access up to the states – they want to ban abortion on a national level. This is unconscionable.
When the far-right majority of the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and stripped women of their right to abortion, they opened the door for extremist Republican politicians to implement abortion bans in states across the country.
Leaving abortion access up to states is already having devastating consequences, with dozens of states banning abortion, restricting access, and punishing both patients seeking abortions and doctors providing abortion care. I will never stop fighting to defend abortion rights and the rights of women to bodily autonomy.

I joined my New England congressional colleagues in calling on the Appropriations Committees to increase funding for LIHEAP ahead of the cold winter months.
|
I'm urging both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to include additional funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in the upcoming government funding package. Additional federal funding for LIHEAP is crucial ahead of the cold winter months, especially as electricity, natural gas, and heating oil prices remain high.

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced an over $72 million investment – made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law – in New Hampshire’s water infrastructure.
As I travel throughout the district I consistently hear from our communities about the challenges that aging water infrastructure poses to providing clean reliable drinking water and effective wastewater treatment. This funding represents a significant investment in the well-being of our cities and towns and will contribute to our economic competitiveness. This is critical, particularly for underinvested communities that need support to provide reliable water that their farmers, residents, and local businesses depend on.

In September, we recognize National Recovery Month to fight the stigma around addiction and send a clear message that recovery is possible.
|
Yesterday, I was proud to stand with my fellow Bipartisan Addiction & Mental Health Task Force co-chairs and members alongside recovery advocates to recognize National Recovery Month.
Each September, we remember those we have lost and work to raise awareness and end the stigma around addiction. I'm proud we have successfully passed bipartisan, meaningful legislation to address this crisis, but we must do more. To those who are struggling — recovery is possible.

As always, the CDC and the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services are the best resources to turn to for information about COVID-19. If you are sick, stay home and call your health care provider.
