State Funeral and Bank Holiday

As Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is laid to rest during a State Funeral on Monday 19 September, we would like to remind residents that this day has officially been confirmed as a national Bank Holiday.

This will allow individuals, businesses, and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate her reign, during the final day of national mourning.

Oldham’s essential services will continue to run during this time, including bin collections , but for a full list of the affected services, please visit
www.oldham.gov.uk/queenelizabethii

Oldham’s Car Boot will be closed on Sunday 18 September too, as will Tommyfield Market on Monday, with normal service resuming on Tuesday 20 September.
Local Memorial Service and a National Moment of Reflection

A special Civic Interfaith Memorial Service at Oldham Parish Church (Rock Street, Oldham) will be taking place from 6pm on the eve of the Queen's funeral, as the borough comes together to pay their respects.

A National Moment of Reflection will follow at 8pm, with a one-minute silence taking place across the United Kingdom to reflect on the Queen's life and legacy during her 70 years on the throne.

The silence can be marked privately at home on your own or with friends and neighbours, out on your doorstep or street with neighbours, or at any locally arranged community events and vigils.

The Queen's time in Oldham...

We were honoured to have been visited by Queen Elizabeth on a number of occasions during her reign, and our Queen Elizabeth Hall was so-named after being built to mark the Silver Jubilee celebrations.

Our new town centre park is also set to be named in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

As we countinue to mourn Her Majesty's passing, we want to share some of the special moments she shared with us, here in Oldham...

Local bus services

Earlier this year you may have read that dozens of bus services were under threat, including a number of services in Oldham.

Transport for Greater Manchester has now confirmed that many of the routes and services will be saved and the following services in
Oldham will now remain unchanged: 81; 181/182; 180; 350, 425 and 426.

From 30 October 2022, the 59 (Oldham - Middleton - Manchester) Monday to Friday daytime frequency will reduce to every 12 minutes and the X84 (Carrcote – Uppermill – Lees – Manchester) will be withdrawn, however the 84 provides an alternative.
