Dear John,
This week, the non-partisan Common Ground Committee updated my score for bipartisanship among all Members of Congress. Now, I rank in the top 3% of most bipartisan Members of Congress! When I was elected, I pledged to be an independent voice for Minnesotans and this score shows that I am continuing to live up to that promise.
I’m not in Congress to be a rubber stamp for either party. I am here to represent each and every one of my constituents, regardless of how they vote, and work to secure practical, effective solutions for Minnesota. Bipartisanship is the greatest tool we have in mitigating extremism and making sure that all voices are heard — and that’s why over 80% of the bills I have introduced and co-sponsored are bipartisan!
Here are some of the other highlights from this week:
Supporting Minnesota Farmers
It’s always great to talk all-things ag in DC with the Minnesota Farm Bureau and the Farmer’s Union. Both were in DC to meet with me this week!
Meeting with Minnesota Leaders
It’s always nice to catch up with a familiar face from home while in Washington. Rep. John Huot stopped by my DC office this week to touch base on our shared priority of supporting first responders.
Remembering Minnesota History
This week, my staff got the chance to stop by the Defeat of Jesse James Days and watch the world-famous re-enactment of the raid on First National Bank of Northfield. Things did not end any better for the James gang in 2022 than they did in 1876.
Behind the scenes with Rep Craig (x 2!):
This week, we swore in a few new Members of Congress who were elected during special elections this summer. Among them was Rep. Mary Peltola, who now represents the entire state of Alaska (no small task!). I was so proud to welcome a new member to the Congressional Women’s Caucus and the first-ever Alaska Native in Congress!
Also, this week, the bipartisan Women’s Congressional Softball Team took on Team Press in our annual game to benefit the Young Survivor’s Coalition. For the first time in several years, Team Congress beat Team Press! Here’s a link to a story about the game – and your Congresswoman and Team Congress catcher is mentioned in it:
Lawmakers break five-year losing streak in Congressional Softball Game
It was certainly a whirlwind week here in Washington – and I am looking forward to heading back to Minnesota this weekend for the Corey Slifko Memorial Softball Tournament. Corey Slifko was a 20-year veteran of the South St. Paul police department who lost his life due to trauma-linked suicide. To honor his life and his service to his community, police officers from across southern Minnesota are putting on a softball tournament to support the Invisible Wounds Project. I look forward to seeing some of you there to support this important cause and honor Corey’s memory!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
Member of Congress
