The EU and the Future of Arctic Cooperation in the Northern Dimension 200 Years of Bilateral Relations: The Perspective of the U.S. Ambassadors
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has brought all Arctic fora to a standstill. For the EU, this directly impacts the Northern Dimension, a joint policy program that includes, among other efforts, environmental goals. In this Polar Institute blog post, Iris Thatcher posits, “the EU still has the ability to commit to specific black carbon targets as a whole, while planning better coordination.” “Their testimony suggests that the perception of the American ambassador as a figure larger than life, with unlimited access to the president, has evolved as the Cold War ended and Mexico became more democratic. Nowadays, access seems to depend more on the president’s personal style.” -Dolia Estévez, journalist and author, who is among the participants in this event commemorating 200 years of formal diplomatic relations between the US and Mexico.
