After overturning Roe, Clarence Thomas argued that the Court should reconsider the 2015 ruling that legalized same-sex marriage.

The Respect for Marriage Act would codify marriage equality, preventing SCOTUS from taking that right away. It passed the House in July. Now it faces a tough challenge in the Senate, where Democrats are working to find 10 Republicans to support the bill.

So far, only 3 Republicans Sens., Susan Collins, Rob Portman, and Thom Tillis, have been willing to come to the table. We must keep pressuring Republicans to vote "yes" on this bill and protect marriage equality.

P.S. Below is an email we sent out earlier demanding that the Senate pass the Respect for Marriage Act:

Jack, the Respect for Marriage Act, a bipartisan bill codifying marriage equality, easily passed the House in July with the support of 47 Republicans.

We hoped this could be a bipartisan breakthrough for LGBTQ+ rights. Instead, the bill is facing brutal pushback in the Senate. Only three Republicans have indicated that they would support the bill, and another, Sen. Ron Johnson, appears to have changed his mind about his vote.

The freedom to marry the person you love is a fundamental right that Americans overwhelmingly agree with. Over 70% of the public support marriage equality. But with the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and Clarence Thomas writing that other privacy rights (like marriage equality) may be next, the threat to our fundamental rights is genuine.
