FY2020 Appropriations Agreement Includes Significant Early Childhood Investment
It’s a billion-dollar week for child care and early education: the FY 2020 funding bill that the Senate passed today and the House approved on Tuesday increases the Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) by $550 million, Head Start by $550 million, and Preschool Development Grants by $25 million. We estimate the $550 million CCDBG increase could allow for up to 33,600 additional children to receive child care—not nearly as many as the House’soriginal $2.4 billion proposal but still an important step forward. The bill now heads to the president’s desk for his action.
