This week, you have probably already seen the news that Senator Lindsey Graham has introduced federal legislation to ban abortion after 15 weeks nationwide.
After all the years of hearing from Republican politicians and activists claim that abortion was an issue that should be decided by the states, the rush to embrace a nationwide ban on abortion shows us what they have really sought to do all along.
Extreme lawmakers have made it clear they won’t let up their efforts to take away our rights to make our own decisions about our bodies, our families, and our futures. The consequences are devastating and we’ve seen them firsthand in Texas, which has become ground zero for attacks on reproductive freedom.
In Congress, I’m working to protect our right to reproductive care and our ability to access it. But if we lose our majorities in the House and the Senate, the ability of the Congress to protect reproductive rights will come to a halt. Senator Graham’s bill is one of many bills that Republicans in Congress have already introduced to roll back reproductive rights.
Earlier this summer, only eight House Republicans voted to protect the right to use birth control!
There are many things we can do right now, and that includes getting voters to the polls to vote for pro-choice candidates up and down the ballot in November. Everywhere.
I’m working every day to do this, and I hope I can count on your help.
I truly believe we can hold the House, pick up seats in the Senate, and protect our rights and freedoms in the next Congress as long as we do everything we can to win today.
Together, we can do anything.
