Notes from Mike's Desk for the Week of September 12 – 16, 2022

Hello, friends. Welcome back to my newsletter highlighting what’s happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District. Thank you for subscribing and please consider recommending this resource to a friend.

IN THE HOUSE

In our House Judiciary Committee meeting on Wednesday, my colleagues and I highlighted the many ways the Biden Administration has politicized the U.S. Department of Justice: selectively prosecuting political opponents; using counterterrorism resources against concerned parents; and suing conservative states, just to name a few.

This corruption poses a great danger to the stability of America’s system of justice. As soon as we restore a Republican majority this fall, we will ensure accountability for these abuses. Click to watch:

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

This week, I led 47 House colleagues, with my good friends Rep. Chip Roy of Texas and Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, in sending a letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin demanding answers from the Pentagon on the COVID-19 vaccine mandate’s effect on the readiness of America’s Armed Forces.

During the worst recruiting year in our military's history, over 100,000 servicemembers now face discharge over Secretary Austin’s mandate. If the Pentagon cares to protect military readiness, they must withdraw or begin rapidly granting exemptions from this disastrous order. You can read the letter about this dangerous situation here:

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Serving as Vice Chairman of the House Republicans during this past two years and helping to lead my colleagues has been one of the great highlights of my time in Congress.

This week, I was humbled to announce that after the job of helping deliver a Republican majority is done in November, I intend to run for another term as Vice Chairman for the 118th Congress.

Politico broke the story of my decision this week:

LAGNIAPPE

Since I warned parents last week in a Facebook post about the new Disney/FX cartoon series about Satan and the Antichrist (yes, you read that correctly) nearly 18 million people have viewed and commented on my page. Most have been very supportive, but some have angrily accused me favoring censorship and “violating the separation of church and state.” The accusations presented a teachable moment about that widely misunderstood concept. A lot of people have found this post useful, so I thought I would share it here:

My team and I so enjoyed meeting recently with students from The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club of Shreveport to see the essential skills they are learning through the STEM program.

We’re grateful for the dedicated educators and the talented students who make these important programs such a success. Check out the smiling faces on their page:
