Yesterday began the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month! The recognition, from September 15th - October 15th, celebrates the rich and diverse culture, heritage, and many contributions of people from the countries of Latin America and Spain. The “month” straddles both September and October. It starts on September 15th, the Independence Day for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico celebrates its independence on September 16th and Chile on September 18th. Many Latin American countries celebrate the second Monday of October as Indigenous People’s Day or Dia de la Raza - which recognizes the cultures, traditions, and heritage of the indigenous people who were here when European colonists arrived. 

The New Jersey League of Conservation Voters has endorsed a record number of candidates across the state, including our County Commissioner Candidates, Judy Hernandez, TC McCourt, and Alicia Sharma, for being environmental champions! "Our planet is on the ballot this November, and this election will set the tone on how our country handles the climate crisis for decades to come," said the candidates in a joint statement. "We look forward to working with New Jersey LCV on moving Morris County and the rest of the state toward a more sustainable future." They also endorsed 18 municipal Democratic candidates in Morris County. Congratulations to all!

Many kids depend on free school lunches. When schools can't help, the Brown Bag Buddies program helps fill the need.

The Morris Plains Dems will be collecting kid-friendly food items to be included in lunch bags that kids will decorate at the event.
