North Carolina League of Conservation Voters
John,
After two virtual years, we finally had a party! Last week's Green Tie was a great success, and more importantly, a great reminder of why the work you support is so important.
Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Jr., our honored guest, made a great case for why the environment, environmental justice, racial justice, democracy and politics are inextricably linked. He did a great job rallying the troops as we head into the home stretch for our November elections. He also said he'd come back down for the party when we win!
We also heard from Rhianna Absher, a young climate activist on a path to great things, also made her passionate plea for how important it is to vote for leaders who will protect our environment and stand for environmental justice. I imagine we'll be voting for Rhianna herself one day.
And then to the heart of the evening-- We thanked all of our Awardees for their commitment and service to all North Carolinians.
Senator of the Year - Wiley Nickel
Representative of the Year - Cynthia Ball
Catalyst Award - Mona Lisa Wallace
Jane Sharp Lifetime Achievement Award - In honor of Karen Cragnolin
Rising Stars - Senators Sarah Crawford, Julie Mayfield, DeAndrea Salvador. Representatives Vernetta Alston, Amber Baker, Terry Brown, Linda Cooper-Suggs, Brian Farkas, Ricky Hurtado, Abe Jones, James Roberson
The "Joes" - Senators Valerie Foushee, Jeff Jackson. Representatives John Ager, Susan Fisher, Verla Insko, Grier Martin, Evelyn Terry, Brian Turner
And we thank all of our generous sponsors » [link removed]
