Apple’s Parental Controls Got A Major Upgrade

Last August 2021, The National Center on Sexual Exploitation, Protect Young Eyes, child safety advocate Melissa McKay, and 25 child advocacy groups sent a letter to Apple encouraging the tech giant to consider 10 critical safety features to increase child safety. Many of you joined us, also pleading with Apple to make it easier for parents and caregiver to protect kids on Apple products.

And Apple listened!

With this week’s release of iOS 16, "Screen Time" (the name for Apple’s parental controls) has become much more intuitive, easier to use, and includes additional features that ease the burden of parents who want to keep their kids safe. Join us in thanking Apple for these changes!

Will you spread the word about the CESE Summit?

We hope you are joining us for the 2022 Coalition to End Sexual Exploitation (CESE) Online Global Summit. Will you help us spread the word, so others can take advantage of this incredible opportunity as well? Please consider sharing this video on social media, so this Summit can be the biggest and best yet! And if you haven't yet registered for the Summit  there's no time like the present!

Back to School: Ensuring Kids Have A Safe, Pornography-Free Learning Environment

With fall starting and kids heading back to school, it’s time to talk about how we can ensure our kids have a safe educational environment. Sadly, one of the concerns that has become more pressing over the years is kids being exposed to pornography and other online dangers at school or within their space of learning. This problem has only grown with increased use of technology in education (EdTech), as well as the rise of online schooling. Find out how you can ensure your kids are protected during school hours or when they are using school-issued devices at home.

KOSA: It’s Time for Big Tech to Protect Children Online

The National Center on Sexual Exploitation hosted a briefing in early August for public policy advocates who needed to understand what the Kids Online Safety Act is all about. The Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) increases the legal responsibility of digital platforms and app developers to keep children who use their products safe. The Act takes a three-pronged approach of 1) Duty of Care, 2) Safeguards and Tools, and 3) Transparency. You can help support KOSA by contacting your Senators, using the easy action form at the bottom of this page.

Sincerely,
