Hispanic Heritage Month kicks off today, John, and I am SO excited. I’m proud to be a Latina running to represent Colorado – a state where a Latina has never been elected to Congress.

This is a time to celebrate the accomplishments of Hispanics and Latinos and how much they have contributed to our country. Diversity is our strength, and every day is a reminder of that.

My parents came to Colorado from a small town in Mexico, looking for a better life. They didn’t have much education or much money, but they knew that hard work and caring for others are the values that build strong communities and families. They raised me and my three siblings with those values – on a construction worker’s pay in the Adams County home they still live in – doing whatever it took to put us on a path to success.

Within our communities, no two stories are the same. As a Latina, I am proud of my story, and as a State Legislator, I am proud of my reputation for taking on tough fights and working with anyone to get things done. In Congress, I will continue tackling the biggest problems affecting our community, and will always be an advocate for Hispanic and Latino people.

I hope you’ll join me in reflecting on the contributions Hispanics and Latinos have made to our country. Thank you for reading this note and for being part of my story.

– Yadira

P.S. I am running a people-powered campaign to become the first Latina to represent Colorado. If you would like to help me make history, I would appreciate it if you could make a contribution to my hardworking team so we can continue reaching voters in this final stretch of the election. Thank you!

Yadira Caraveo is a pediatrician, state representative, and daughter of immigrants. Her parents raised her and her siblings on her father’s construction worker’s salary in Adams County. In the legislature, Dr. Caraveo has delivered for working Coloradans by standing up to the biggest corporate bullies and entrenched special interests.

Now, Dr. Caraveo is running for Congress to stand up for hard-working families she sees falling through the cracks. Dr. Caraveo would be the first Latina to represent Colorado in Congress and the only physician in Colorado’s congressional delegation. Contribute to her campaign today!
